Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2011 - Should Be a Lot of Fun.

It's that time of year in Toronto again. Nuit Blanche will soon be upon us. This year it will be bigger and better than ever. It seems to be one of those events that captures people's imaginations and grows in stature every year.

Nuit Blanche is an all night affair that occurs one night a year. Downtown Toronto is transformed into an all night art show. The lights are so bright in certain corners that it seems almost like mid-day (hence the name nuit blanche).

There will be all kinds of performers, ranging from the types who should probably be locked up in an asylum to some very clever people who put together interesting shows and displays. In any case, there will probably be almost a million people wandering around, so there's no need to be worried about being trapped in some dark corner by a man in make-up wearing tights, juggling live animals while blowing Lithuanian marching songs on a didgeridoo. It's really just about a whole group of people having fun and being amused.

The activities start at 6.59 P.M. on October 1, and will go straight through until dawn. I'm probably not going to be one of those people who are still wandering around when the sun comes up. I do however, plan to take it all in for a few hours. Stay tuned for some pictures next week, or better yet, come down to Toronto and experience it for yourself and post your own pictures. I'm sure you'll be able to get some good ones.

Malcolm. This seems to be a very unique event for Toronto. Sounds like a lot of fun, and it certainly will be entertaining with all those lights. Looking forward to seeing your photos for this event soon.

Hi Jerry, there's a similar event in Montreal, but just as in all other aspects, Toronto is superior. It is a very fun event.

Malcolm, this sounds like a very fun festival for night owls.  I like to stay up late sometimes but usually on my couch watching a movie.  I hope everyone that goes has a wonderful time!  --Krystal

Malcolm. Sometimes I wonder when they're ever going to fix the axle of the turnip truck I just fell off of. Living most of my life within 3 hours of Toronto and never heard of this event.

Malcolm, I have never heard, nor read, nor seen on TV any reference to this event... you say it attracts almost a million people? Wow!  I will look forward to your pics next week

Krystal, it definitely is an event for night owls, and I'm not really a night person but I will be for this night.

Lol, Evan, yes the Trenton turnip truck does need to be fixed.

Chris, it's one of those underground festivals that's becoming more mainstream every year.

Malcolm,

Listen, I haven't heard of it either. So, Chris and Evan shouldn't feel too bad.

I suppose I'll have to check it out.

Malcolm - I lived in Toronto from 1990 - 1994 and I don't recall this event either.  It sounds like a "hoot" (yes, sorry, reference to night owls...).  Oh please, please, if you do see "a man in make-up wearing tights, juggling live animals while blowing Lithuanian marching songs on a didgeridoo" you've just got to capture that on film!  Have a great time!
