Quinte, On. real estate agent: Keeping Christmas Fresh and Interesting

Keeping Christmas Fresh and Interesting

Black Friday is over.

Whether you like it or not, the Christmas season is now underway. I feel that it's a bit early, but it's not something that I can fight anyway, so I might as well just join the crowd. This will be my 46th Christmas, and I must admit that I'm getting a little bored with the music. I have been listening to the same carols and songs for years now. So have you. If the Christmas season wasn't so long, perhaps I wouldn't be fed up of hearing them, but frankly I feel that I have heard them so often that they have lost just about all meaning. I repeat the words by rote now.

This year I have decided to shake things up a little, re-energise myself in the Christmas music department by finding some new material to listen to. I'm sick and tired of "jingle bells", "silent night" et al, and the time has come to introduce some new songs to the Yule-tide playlist. I think we could all use a bit of a fresh air.

My first selection to the alternative Christmas repetoire is a rather cheery number called "We're All Going to Die", by the ever-cheery Scottish singer Malcolm Middleton. Just watching the video brings back some pleasant memories.

Poor, drunk Santa. His elves left him and went to China. No wonder he's a little depressed.

Pamela, this is what the world has come to.

Malcolm,

... do I sense your tongue planted firmly in your cheek?

or is this going to be a "bah humbug, Christmas?

I love the old favourites... O Holy Night, Greensleaves etc myself

I might challenge you to duelling Christmas videos or something

Oh Malcolm, this is the saddest Santa I have ever seen!  Come on, turn that frown into a smile and start singing "Oh Christmas Tree" at the top of your lungs.

Malcolm,

That was lots of fun. It's important to make sure that things are fun. Otherwise the holidays can get too serious.

This person's role model is Bad Santa.  Everyone needs a job and sitting and having people sit on your lap all day and listen to all they want could very well be depressing.  I remember the reason we have Christmas

Malcolm, I'm just not ready to jump into Christmas.  It does not seem like Thanksgiving really had its moment. Santa was in the malls and stores were opening for Black Thursday ... oh there is so much wrong with that!  That is one messed up Santa ... a little dark and twisted yet it is true ... we are all going to die!

Malcolm, that's the sadest Santa I've heard LOL. I have to agree with you though. The radio stations do go all Christmas too soon.

Chris, yes, I guess my tongue was planted loosely in my cheek, but I am fed up of treaditional Christmas musak.

Sally, sometimes I prefer honest morbidity to false cheer. seems so much more honest.

Brian, I agree completely. Every tradition had to start somewhere, so we should start some more fun traditions.

Larry, I couldn't imagine very many worse jobs than being a mall Santa.

Kathleen, you can't argue with his logic. We are all going to die.

Janice, we shouldn't really be hearing about Christmas until Dec. 1 at the earliest, but Dec. 23 would be a better date to start the fuss.

I quite like him too. Outwardly humourous, inwardly tormented, sounds like a great combination.
