Where Cottages are still Cottages - Green Acres Ontario

Do you remember the old days when cottages were still cottages and not half million dollar mini mansions on the lake? Those were the days before children required hospitalization when they got bitten by a black fly and you threw out the pancake mix every week because you weren't quite sure if those black things were dehydrated blueberries or mouse droppings. Oh yeah, and the screen door always slammed shut when you left the building because the springs didn't work any more. Ahhhh, the good old days of summer cottages in Ontario.

Do such places still exist in Ontario when the going rate for a delapidated outhouse in the Muskokas is over $700,000? Why yes there still are places like this where you can own a freehold waterfront cottage without having to belong to a resort community. In fact, there are a few areas within a two hour drive of Toronto where you can have all this and more at a reasonable price.

One such place is locally known as Green Acres.

Between Campellford and Stirling, just along County Road 8, there's a road leading south towards the Trent River called Green Acres Road. This road leads to a small community known as Green Acres.

Green Acres is a mix of newer homes and old fashioned cottages (like the ones you might remember from years ago before cottages had 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, his and hers saunas, and media rooms in them).

It's a very pleasant place with many waterfront properties that front onto a smaller channel of the Trent River. There's a public boat launch nearby, so boaters won't have to go far to get their crafts into the river.

This particular stretch of the Trent offers over 16 kilometers of lock free boating with fabulous fishing, and the price of cottages here are very reasonable compared with other recreational areas.

Green Acres is a Trent Hills community in Northumberland county, close to Hoards Station where the nearest convenience store is located. The nearby towns of Warkworth, Stirling, Trent Hills and Campbellford are very active communities, and in the summer there will always be local events and activities every weekend, so you'd never be bored.

If you are interested in buying or selling a home or cottage in this charming area, give me a call, I may be able to help you.

Hi Malcolm, thanks for the memories of summer on the lake in a cottage. Sure not every

thing was perfect, we didn't care. We were out of school and having fun at the lake.

Greenacres sounds like a great area. Enjoy your summer.
