With a population of about 1700, Wellington is Prince Edward County's second largest town. It's about halfway between Trenton and Picton on Highway 33 (Loyalist Parkway) and is surrounded by some of the most pleasant scenery in the province. It's very hard not to notice some of the older buildings as you drive through town, one rather prominent house dates back to 1786, and a concerted effort has been made to preserve the history of this town which was incorporated in 1799.
Wellington is situated right on the shore of Lake Ontario, close to Sandbanks provincial Park. It's a great spot for tourists to stop and have lunch or dinner as there is a number of very fine restaurants on Main Street. Wellington is surrounded by wineries, so many of the restaurants feature local wines.
One of the best things about Wellington is that there's a public beach and boardwalk right in the heart of town. Very neat. There is also a very modern docking facility and fishing charters are available if you aren't coming with your own boat.
As well as all the water related activities, there's tons of other stuff to see and do in and around Wellington such as art galleries, day spas, bed and breakfasts, winery tours and festivals every now and then.
Wellington is a pretty busy little town with a bank, a post office, a grocery store, a library branch, a laundromat, a pharmacy, as well as a number of boutique stores and restaurants.
It's a wonderful area to retire to and there are a few adult living communities in the area for those looking for a quieter pace of life. Wellington offers most of the amenities that can be found in much larger towns, so it is a popular spot with the senior crowd. A drive through Wellington is a treat that shouldn't be missed on a nice sunny day if you happen to be driving through Prince Edward County.
That is beautiful territory. I wish you well on selling the area.
Malcolm, You write the most interesting posts about your area. Makes me want to see your area one of these days.
Malcom- Wellington looks like a great town. Anyone considering a move to Wellington Ontario should give you a call!
Malcolm, I like small towns and would love to visit your area...with a public beach and boardwalk right in town... that's very nice!
Malcolm, you are the local expert. And, with every post, I am beginning to understand why you love your area, and why we all should visit or MOVE there!
Not sure if we are stopping at Sandbanks on the way to Montreal next Sunday, but if we do, I will be familiar with Wellington. Main St looks like small town Ontario.
One of your many skills Malcolm is your ability to draw the word pictures of your area and the homes you represent. Capturing the feel and sense of a town as you do is a gift and so fun to read. You could easily be working as a journalist, but then you wouldn't be able to help people with their real estate dreams anymore. Better yet, stay a Realtor® and keep writing about your homes and area.
Good morning Malcolm -
Wellington sounds like a great town to live and play in. A good job on describing the inviting town of Wellington.
